Sunglasses Size Guide & Measuring Tips
Understanding Sunglasses Measurements
Sunglasses frames typically have three key measurements marked like: 52□18-145
Lens Width (52)
The horizontal width of each lens in millimeters. This is the first number you'll see on most frames.
Bridge Width (18)
The distance between the lenses (over the nose) in millimeters. This is the second number.
Temple Length (145)
The length of the arms/temples in millimeters. This is the third number.
Frame Width
The total width of the entire frame from temple to temple. This is approximately: Lens Width × 2 + Bridge Width.
How to Measure for Sunglasses
Face Width Measurement
- Stand in front of a mirror.
- Use a flexible measuring tape or ruler.
- Measure the width of your face from temple to temple (the widest part).
- Record the measurement in millimeters or inches.
Bridge Width Measurement
- Look straight ahead in a mirror.
- Measure the width of the bridge of your nose where glasses would sit.
- For most people, this ranges from 14-24mm.
Temple-to-Ear Measurement
- Measure from your temple (side of your eye) to the point where your ear connects to your head.
- This helps determine the ideal temple arm length.
- Standard temple lengths are typically 135mm, 140mm, 145mm, or 150mm.

The weight should be evenly distributed between your ears and nose, without leaving pressure marks.
Cheek Clearance
The frames shouldn't touch your cheeks when you smile or talk.
